Every 60-Year-Old Woman Deserves to Be Seen—Including the Girl She Used to Be
Every woman over 60 should try this simple ritual. It changed how I see myself—and the life I still get to live.
“She Deserved to Be Seen—and So Do I”
A Conversation Between My Past and Present Self
The other day, I held a photograph of my younger self and looked her in the eye.
Not glanced. Not skimmed.
I looked.
She was sitting in the sand, legs crossed, a little guarded, but not broken. She looked like a young woman who was already carrying too much but wouldn’t say a word about it. She looked like someone who hadn’t yet been seen—not really.
And for most of my life, I didn’t see her either.
I thought she wasn’t pretty enough.
I thought she should smile more.
I thought she needed fixing.
But this time, I didn’t critique her.
I didn’t judge or flinch or shift my gaze.
This time… I thanked her.
Because everything I have now— every quiet morning, every soul-connection ( thanks Substack!) , every brushstroke, every note that ripples out into the world—she carried me toward it. Even when she didn’t know that’s what she was doing.
And now, I carry her. With gentleness. With pride. With power.
You want a healing practice?
Try this:
Find a photo of yourself—20, 30, 40 years ago.
Hold it.
Don’t analyze it. Just be with her.
Then say something you wish someone had said to her.
And let her say something back.
Because when you learn to see her, you learn to finally see yourself. And that’s where you begin to come home to yourself.
Journaling Prompt:
Find a photo of your younger self.
Sit with her for a moment.
Then write a letter that begins:“I see you now, and here’s what I want you to know…”
Let her write back if she wants to.
Sometimes, initial soul connection doesn’t look like a breakthrough.
Sometimes, it looks like holding a photo… and finally holding yourself.
If this stirred something in you, I’ve created two companion guides that might speak to what you're feeling:
💛 Five Things Every Woman Should Do in This Stage of Life — for reclaiming what still lights you up.
💛 Five Things Every Woman Should NOT Do 5 essential truths every woman needs when stepping into her next chapter.
Just 99¢ each: soul-packed, and waiting for you [right here].
Because you’re not behind. You’re just beginning again—this time, as the woman she always needed you to become.
These single-page guides—whether you call them PDFs, soul sheets, or clarity tools—aren’t theory. They’re rooted in lived experience. Every one of them was born from a moment in my own life where I needed direction, perspective, or a path forward. I offer them because they’ve worked for me—and now, they’re here to support you in finding the same kind of clarity and momentum in your own way.

Once again, I find some hearty food for thought here. Brava!
Ooh... i like that. This is very helpful. Thank you. This is exactly like some of the work I do for other people... hence, @TheStoryMedic... and it's good to have that reflected back to me. Dose of my own medicine, as it were. I'm glad I tripped across this, this morning.
