The girl dreamed of becoming someone. The woman became herself.

I stopped trying to be timeless. I became immortal.

Whoa. Wait—doesn’t immortal mean living forever?
Well, not in the context of today’s message.

Somewhere along the line, we were told youth was the pinnacle—
that if we stayed wrinkle-free, toned, and relevant,
we could somehow outrun time itself.

Since turning seventy last month, I’ve been thinking more about age and health than ever. I can’t say I’m completely at ease with it. Some mornings I catch my reflection in the mirror and think, Who is that woman? And right behind that—Where did the time go?

I never really answer those questions. Instead, I pivot. I turn my thoughts toward something that feels good, something that lights me up.

It’s not that I dislike being seventy. It’s that I’m noticing what I need to make peace with. And when I do, I usually land in gratitude—that sweet spot of heavenly joy for simply being above ground, not under it.

Take my hair, for example. Once my calling card in life, these locks no longer have the gloss or volume they once did. But I’ve made peace with that. I refuse to cut it. I still love my long hair.

More to the point, I love not having to fuss with it every day. Pulling it up in a bun is like butter on bread—simple, satisfying, and just right. It doesn’t need to be profound. It just needs to stay out of my eyes so I can work. That, my friends, is how I made peace with thinning hair.

Choosing to delight in what is—that’s where immortality begins.
We can’t defy time, but we can delight in it.
Every moment noticed. Every breath counted. Every laugh echoing beyond the years.

This is my practice—the way I embrace time instead of fighting it. After all, why fight it? There’s no escape hatch.
