Monica… Your story reminds me of what you wrote about last week, “being available“ for what life has to offer. I want to carry that sense of “being available” with me as I move through the day.
A tiny black metal hanging bird bath for birds to bath or drink from. I hang bird feeders under my high awnings…sometimes windy, i use black zip ties to tighten for less swinging in wind, and for extra security from falling. I look forward to your pics. Love it when someone thinks outside the box! I love your posts, especially the creative stuff 💚🌱
One of my favorite word/actions is notice. Your piece resonated with me. That tiny thought or memory is a spark that can burn out but if conditions are right can result in fire, light and heat.
I love this. My best friend lives in Chicago and has such a balcony - she says it's called a Juliet balcony, from the balcony scene in Romer and Juliet. Think of the possibilities!
If black metal is used in your creative hangings, bath, planter, feeder, etc… it will look good from the outside, blending with the black railing, so maybe you wont get complaints…maybe you will start a new, beautiful trend for your neighbors doing the same!!, and ya’ll will have more color, nature and beauty to look at out your balcony views…like in the old country, waving to each other too.
🪴NICE balcony usage. Wondering if you could add a slim window box to the inside of your balcony? (So it cant fall below with wind or weight) and grow a little something…herbs, flowers, etc.. or hang a little bird feeder from the inside balcony. If you have the window box, if would not only give you more nature, but less parking lot at sitting view level. What a wonderful aha nature use of your balcony.
I had a similar situation. I had wanted to live in a forest. I lived where I’m living now for five years before I went up on the roof. We have a stairway to the roof. It’s a flat roof stucco New Mexico house. I looked around , I couldn’t see the other houses and I realized - I live in a forest. They’re just short juniper and Piñon trees. They’re not tall pine trees like the Ponderosa on the mountains. Ever since then I’ve looked at my tree neighbors with much more respect and enjoyment.
I had a similar experience with the terrace in my apartment building. When I moved in, it was one floor above me, and simply an open space in which I could put furniture too big for my little apartment. The beautiful views were still nourishing. Then they built the apartment on the third floor, and I moved in. The terrace stayed the same until last year. Then it became my outdoor living room, because it’s fully roofed and there’s space for as many plants as I can care for. Now I have extended my home to include the entire terrace. Everyone who comes upstairs comments on what a beautiful sanctuary I’ve created. It is totally changed my experience of living in this apartment. Now, thanks to you, I’m on the hunt for the next reclaiming.
Oh this is spooky! I have just been writing in my morning pages 'Why am I always waiting? Why can't I see anything other than an opportunity that looks 100% familiar and right to me?' and then I picked up my phone and read your piece! I love that you created your lovely balcony. Thanks so much for sharing this story.

It’s been fueling me for the past five days! And yeah, I am digging it
Thanks, Monica, very creative thinking — maybe we already have what we want, also letting go of worn out ideas to make room for something new!!
Your view looks beautiful, and trees are so healing!! 🧡
This post is truly inspiring! :) Thanks.

A railing planter…please update your balcony view creation with another pic as you go along. 🪴
Yes. That’s what I ordered. Now I’m shopping for a bird.
