The Best Thing About Getting Older?
I No Longer Care What You Think”

I’ve found myself in an interesting situation lately—a team of younger men, a big community project, and me—the lone woman and the eldest in the room.
I try not to make it about that, but I can’t help but notice. It’s a reminder that we boomers are often overlooked, but we hold something irreplaceable: hard-earned wisdom.
I bring more than just commitment to this downtown revitalization effort—I bring decades of experience, the knowledge of how these projects succeed (and fail), and most importantly? The confidence to encourage action.
Because here’s the thing—age has freed me from people-pleasing.
When you’ve been around long enough, you learn that trying to make everyone happy leads nowhere. So when my younger counterparts hesitate, unsure about making firm decisions, I gently nudge them forward—not with force, but with stories of past successes. And I love the moment when I see their eyes light up, when they realize that this can work, that bold decisions can lead to big impact.
I don’t honk my horn. I don’t tell them what to do. I simply offer what I know. And that, my friends, is the true power of wisdom: it guides, it empowers, and it moves things forward.
And that same wisdom? It applies to you, too.
Where in your own life are you hesitating? Where are you holding back—waiting for permission, waiting for a perfect moment that never comes?
Because you have wisdom, too. You have experiences, lessons, hard-won knowledge that the world needs. Whether it’s for a community project, a dream you once set aside, or a life you’ve yet to fully claim—you already have everything you need.
The only question is: Are you willing to trust yourself enough to step forward?
Because when you do, the whole world shifts.
