The Power of the Pivot
(One Pine Needle at a Time)
The morning came in hot.
I woke up to news that felt like a gut punch—sad, frustrating, and completely outside of my control. The kind of thing that used to hijack my whole day. And for a moment, I felt that old pull… the itch to call someone and vent.
Because let’s be honest:
There’s something seductive about hearing your friends say, “You’re totally right to feel that way.”
Validation feels like relief—but only for a minute.
What it actually does is keep the negative energy swirling.
In the past, I’d vent to one friend. Then another. Then I’d replay the whole situation in my mind like a bad soap opera until the original pain had multiplied itself five times over.
But I don’t live like that anymore.

Today, I made a different choice.
I didn’t get on the phone to rage or spiral. I did speak to a friend—but I led with intention:
“I’m not venting. I just want to think this through. Can you help me explore the pros and cons?”
She held space beautifully. No fixing. No feeding the fire. Just presence.
And then, I turned to my painting.
I sat down and focused on just one thing: the pine branches. One stroke at a time.
At first, it was deliberate. Focused. I was still a little tense.
But something beautiful happened—I kept going.
I started playing with the greens, adding hints of violet, shifting the tones, layering softness and light.
It stopped being about getting it “right” and started being about presence. About play.
That’s when everything changed.
Not the situation.
Me.
By the end of the day, I felt light. Clear. Unbothered.
I made better food choices. Spent my time more wisely. I didn’t feel rushed or reactive. Because I had brought my power back home—into my body, my heart, my canvas.
That’s the real fruit of BREAKTHROUGH.
Not some big dramatic moment—but this:
The quiet ability to pivot. To choose again. To feel peace instead of panic.
And that whole shift?
It started with a pine needle.

Monica, this is so special. Choosing peace is not always easy. One pine needle at a time is a wonderful way to start.
