Nobody checked on me after I divorced the preacher. The isolation was brutal. But leaving that marriage wasn't just survival—it was the first step toward reclaiming my dreams. From pariah to artist. F
I love what Margaret Mead said of her 5 marriages, “They were all a success.” I’m on my 4th marriage (I’m 64), and happily we’re now 14+ years together and I feel more at home with him than ever.
I believe all relationships come into our lives to teach us lessons, and if we get the lessons, the relationship is a success, whether it lasts or not. I may be wrong, but now I think that couples who stay together from youth to old age are 1) very lucky or 2) one (or both) has sacrificed their soul to stay in the relationship or 3) it would be financial suicide to split up.
When one makes the decision to leave - and I find it’s usually the woman, my experience tells me that the prospect of staying is so much more painful than the terrifying risk of leaping into the unknown.
Sounds like “Rosie” has been a true and abiding friend of yours. May we each find our own “Rosie” and the path to living out loud our best selves. ❤️
Walking away from my marriage of 23 years is the best thing I ever did. Even if it meant leaving the country where I had lived all those years, the business I had built, friends and family. At the age of 52 I returned to my home country with just one suitcase, starting all over again. The sense of freedom was tremendous! Finally, I could start being me.
