This Isn’t Morbid.
This Is Urgent. No time for regrets.
This afternoon I woke from another long nap—three hours deep, the kind of nap that feels more like soul fatigue than rest. I wandered over to my computer, no agenda, just following the nudge.
I opened YouTube.
And this video found me.
An 85-year-old psychoanalyst being interviewed about the role of dreams in our lives.
Not the ones we have at night. The ones that call to us over and over again, asking us to live more fully. The ones that knock louder as we age.
He referenced a former hospice nurse who spent 40 years listening to people in their final days. She collected their words and published them in a book called The Five Regrets of the Dying.
The most common regret?
“I wish I’d lived the life I wanted, instead of the one others expected of me.”
I sat with that line.
And then I sat a little longer.
Because I know what it means to push your dream aside.
To let the expectations, judgments, and whispered doubts of others muffle the voice of your own soul.
I’ve done that.
Many times.
And I’ve also fought my way back.
The psychoanalyst went on to say something else I can’t stop thinking about:
“Dreams aren’t random. They are placed within us at birth—assignments from the soul.”
Let that sink in.
We aren’t chasing hobbies.
We’re chasing ourselves.
The woman who wants to write a book isn’t just writing a book—she’s trying to find her voice.
The woman who wants to paint again isn’t just craving beauty—she’s returning to her soul.
The woman who wants to change everything?
She’s trying to feel alive again.
Two days ago, I wrote about a woman like that—who finally said yes to her dream of becoming a writer. That post is now my most-read ever.
Because women are waking up.
We’re tired of burying the best parts of ourselves.
We’re done pretending we’re fine.
So no, this post isn’t morbid.
It’s a love letter to your life.
Because one day, you’ll look back.
And I hope you can whisper,
“I did it. I tried. I lived the life I wanted.”
The dream calling to you?
It’s not a distraction.
It’s your direction.
And you’re not too late.
You’re right on time.
