So true! And I also hate the word 'just' when it's used by self-help 'experts' - 'just let go', 'just feel your feelings', 'just love yourself more', 'just be'. As if by using the word 'just' everything is simple and clear.

So good and so relatable! It does minimize the weight of what we want to say. Great read thank you

Fabulous piece, Moni Rose. If every one in your audience is feeling the way I am, they’re standing up with arms raised, cheering and stepping boldly into the next phase. You go, girl!

I threw out “should” long ago, after a wise therapist stated that he had never met anyone who enjoyed shoulding all over themselves.

And I also hate “just” in prayers as much as I hate the ultra-creepy phrase, “loving on someone.” 🫩

“Humble apology wrapped in spiritual clothing.”

I love this!

My addition: I’m sorry, but…

Really good points! This word "just" has been capturing my attention for several weeks, no matter in my own writing or, reading works of others. I often want to "erase" it!

Thank you, Monica! Years ago I deeply sensed the diminishing effects of hearing and using ‘just’ in communications.

When hearing that word in prayers, I felt more cringe than concurrence as that 4 letter word proudly masqueraded its presence as a sign of humility, seldom revealing to its user its kryptonite effects on the very power intended for the prayer spoken.

It’s wonderful how becoming includes both unlearning and learning experiences with lots of grace to fuel progress.

‘Try’ is another word that I no longer allow to occupy center stage.

“Sorry” too. Sometimes used together with “so”.

Thanks, Monica, perfect for my first read of the morning, and very thought provoking. There are many other words and phrases that I am definitely clearing from my vocabulary and thoughts. 🧡

Thank you Monica! "I just want to say thank you!" NO..."I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU!"...Feel the difference? 😉

I never thought about that.

But very true. It minimizes.
