The glow-up no one talks about; doesn’t involve makeup at all.

It happened again.

I was in one of those pretty little boutiques that smell like candles and promise to make you feel fabulous. The young salesgirls were fluttering around helping women half my age, bringing them earrings, laughing, chatting.

I stood there holding a blouse I wanted to try on, waiting for someone to notice me. Ten minutes went by. Nobody did.

So I put the blouse back on the rack and walked out.

And as I opened the door, I caught my reflection in the glass — and thought, so this is what invisible feels like.

A few days later, it happened again — only this time, in reverse.

“Honey, you need a glow-up,” the sales lady said to me.

I looked at her — then at my daughter — and said, “What the hell is a glow-up?”

Apparently, that’s what they call it now when beauty or nail salons want to take someone like me and “make her over.”
UGH. Nothing could hold less interest for me.

I politely told my daughter, “You should know better. You know I don’t care for such experiences.”
So we left.

But the gumption of that sales lady — we were in a high-end dress shop, for heaven’s sake! Mercy.

Still, it got me thinking.

Maybe I do need a glow-up — just not the kind she was selling.

Because the only glow that matters isn’t painted on with highlighter or wrapped up in spandex. It’s the kind that rises from the inside.
The kind that comes back the moment we stop neglecting ourselves and start expressing who we really are.

You can’t disappear if you’re glowing from the inside.
