I am a caregiver, nearly burnt out. Today, I have declared to be a mental health day. Usually I get to go to the grocery store and pharmacy. Both are important for many reasons. Today though, I get to look in a clothing store. Then I'll get to go to an art supply store. The good smell as I open the door does the same thing for me as entering a chocolate shop. I don't know anything in particular that I want, but I do know that by the time I get there, I will have the frame of mind to think of something, and more so when I open that door. On the way home, I'll decide where I can fit in a few moments to do a little pen and pencil drawing, or some new something I discovered while I'm out.
Like you, I LOVE browing an art supply store. I’m like a kid in a candy shop. So many colors, so many choices and it’s all ideas I GET TO consider. I love this for you
So so many helpful things in this article. From how I “get to” love and take care of my body. To seeing how easily I fall into crisis management or caretaking mode and “get to” be curious about my spark of a dream.
I’m caring for 4 month old grand twins, one with Downs Syndrome, several times a week. I also check in a couple times a week with my 92 year old mom. Life is busy, and unpredictable. But I am still curious.
(Cont) hula in more depth. Hula is Hawaiian story telling. It’s done with movement and music and hand motions. Its fluidity captures my imagination. I want to know more about Hula, its connection to Hawaiian language and Hawaiian spirituality. So, I am laying down my busy, unpredictable life for a month. I’m heading to Hawaii just before Easter. I’m going to the Merry Monarch festival in Hilo, HI. It is a week long festival of Hula. After it is over, I will stay and soak up ocean, sky, and tropical rain forest. I will rest and reflect.
I’m pretty sure my mind will want to embrace the dance, but my knees and hips will encourage embracing the storytelling with less fluid movement. We will see.
For an hour? With no one wanting or needing anything from me? I'd take myself to the fabric store. If I had longer...I'd go take pictures for awhile. Maybe even take a sanity drive with the music up.
