Fck yeah! Ditto - been experiencing “soul symptoms” since late 2023 🥵 - with my vape(s) my constant companion. Still drink 2 glasses red wine every night (beats the drug addiction I kicked a decade ago 😌) & after my entire life collapsed in 2025 - am dead broke - just waitin for Saturn to move to Aries, to finish the upgrade 🥵. Agreed! Soul dont give a fck about vapes 😝- it only cares that you show TF UP! Love your work Monica! ❤️💕❤️💕
Oh my giddy aunt Fanny. I nearly spat out my G&T (shhhh. Don’t tell anyone I’m enjoying a sneaky l’il drinkypoos at 7pm on Wednesday night!) at this line: I learned this early. I was once judged harshly for wearing a halter top to choir practice. Sans a bra.😂😆😅
Good on you.
Hard relate. Except, I covered myself up like I was nun until I was 42. Wearing anything sans bra in my former religion would’ve seen me in trouble with undersexed elders in an incredibly awkward way. And, had I been married, they’d have gone straight to my husband and told him to rein me in.
Soooo wonderful to come to the realization, in your words: That the soul isn’t fragile.
If those messages of "concern" were coming from people who didn't really have any power either, it was also a shorthand way of pointing out that they were winning in the "who's most very goodest in Daddy's eyes" competition. "Your behavior / appearance /singing voice is terrible (and I'm secretly delighted because that means I'm better than you are)."
You can tell those bitches who took up residence in your head long ago to fuck off already. You found your soul, and that means you won.
Absolutely brilliant piece. The way you unpack how moral policing is actually about control rathar than spirituality makes so much sense. In my own life, those judgey voices about things like tattoos or skipping church always came from people who needed to feel superior. Real spiritual growth happened when I stopped performing holiness and just lived authentically.
I hope you LOVE hearing that an artist I didn't know at all well offered me one of his watercolours if I would quit smoking. I was pregnant with my first child at the time and he knew more about the potential repercussions of smoking than did I. But I loved the painting!! So I stubbed out the cigarette then and there and that was that! We later learned that our parents lived two lots away from each other in southern Ontario so he delivered the painting to me in my parent's home after my daughter was born. I still cherish it and never once picked up another cigarette.

“Performing purity instead of practicing presence”. Brilliant formation. The heart of the problem. Thank you. Enjoy!
I second that 💛

Delightful read dear lady.

Thank you. Glad it spoke to you.

I still vape as well and I don’t feel guilty about it because I am not legalistic!
Having a relationship with God is what’s important!
