Retire Yourself from Obligation

The Retirement Nobody Prepared Us For

One of the most powerful things I ever did was name the committee in my head.

You know the one. The voices that tell you you’re too old, too late, too much, too little, too irresponsible, too selfish, or too unrealistic.

Mine has a name. Dracula.

The funny thing is, once I gave that voice a name I stopped confusing it with me. I could literally say: thank you for your opinion, Dracula. Now go sit down. It lost its authority the moment I realized it wasn’t my voice at all. It was a collection of old fears, old expectations, and other people’s opinions masquerading as wisdom.

That’s how you begin building trust with yourself. Every time you choose your own knowing over the committee’s objections, you strengthen the relationship with the one person you’ll spend your entire life with.

You.

I think that’s what sovereignty really is. Not controlling other people. Not having all the answers. It’s finally recognizing that your own soul has earned a seat at the head of the table.

And once that happens, something remarkable begins to unfold.

You stop asking how retirement is supposed to look. You start asking what kind of life you actually want to live.

That’s when eagerness returns. Not because someone handed you a new rule book.

Because you finally gave yourself permission to write your own.

If Dracula sounds familiar — if you have your own committee that’s been voting on your life without your permission — I wrote something specifically for this moment.

It’s called Building Trust With Yourself. A small, honest booklet built from everything I learned about how to stop outsourcing your decisions and start trusting the woman who has been right there all along.

It’s my gift to every woman who becomes a paid member of The Daily RE-WIRE.

Because Dracula doesn’t go quietly. But he does go.

One kernel at a time.
